At Tomkinson Heating, we have developed a 200 kW system that is installed within 2 x 20ft containers.

These are fully installed and comissioned prior to being delivered to site. When delivered, they can be lifted onto a base and plugged into the existing heating system. Ideal for commercial properties.

One container holds all the boiler equipment and the other a sealed fuel store with a capacoty of approximately 15 tonnes of pellets.

We have now added to our products for wood and pellet biomass boilers.

The Mersey Forest Trust have brought out a RHI calculator which will give you a rough guide to how much you might recieve if you changed to a Biomass boiler system. It also produces figures for how much CO2 you would save each year.

I've added a picture of a recent installation we did with a new Contura 35T soapstone model. I though I'd add it to let you know what one looks like in a real installation.

With our expertise in gas-work we have produced a one-off system for a steel dragon allowing it to breath fire. Slightly different to the normal garden knome!

With the announcement by Scottish Gas of a 19% increase in Gas prices and 10% in electricity and the other suppliers bound to follow suit it is certain that members of the public will be looking for an alternative form of heating and cooking.

We are celebrating our 60th anniversary this year so watch this space for our summer promotion!

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is planned for launch July 2011 to provide financial assistance to generators of renewable heat, and producers of renewable biogas and biomethane.

Details of the RHI released 10th March 2011

The scheme will be introduced in two phases.

In the first phase, long-term tariff support will be targeted in the non-domestic sectors, at the big heat users - the industrial, business and public sector – which contribute 38% of the UK’s carbon emissions. Under this phase there will also be support of around £15 million for households through the Renewable Heat Premium Payment.

The second phase of the RHI scheme will see households moved to the same form of long-term tariff support offered to the non-domestic sector in the first phase. This transition will be timed to align with the Green Deal which is intended to be introduced in October 2012.

Key aspects of the first (2011) phase of the RHI

• Only non-domestic installations will be supported

• The first phase of the RHI will not include deeming: payments will be based on metered heat

• Support for biomass will be broken down into size class: Small biomass (<200 kW_th) medium biomass (>200 kW_th - 1 MW_th) and large biomass (>1 MW_th).

• For small and medium scale biomass there will be a tariff breakpoint at 1314 peak load hours p.a. Below this small biomass will receive 7.6p/kWh, and medium biomass will receive 4.7p/kWh, while above this both will receive 1.9p/kWh. Large biomass receives a flat rate of 2.6p/kWh

• Payments will be made quarterly and the tariff duration is 20 years

• Eligible renewable heat equipment installed since 15th July 2009 will qualify for support under RHI

• There will be some support for households under the Renewable Heat Premium Payment

• It is intended that parliamentary approval be obtained July 2011 and the scheme introduced thereafter

RHI Premiuim Payment

Although domestic households will not be able to benefit from the tariffs in the first phase of the RHI, they will be eligible for support under the Premium Payments until the second phase of the RHI is launched in October 2012.

The RHI Premium Payment will be worth around £15m and will support up to 25,000 installations from July. A key focus will be for people living off the gas grid.

We have now started a case study page showing some of the biomass boiler installations we have done over the last year. This should give you a much better idea of how the systems are installed depending on the requirements of the household.
